traditional jewel of the region. Indeed, the jewel in Normandy has a typology and a style of its own. Its great variety of forms and the quality of its manufacture indicate a large corporation of jewelers goldsmiths under the Ancien Régime, and powerful jewelers in the nineteenth and twentieth century. in the regional capital (Rouen) and medium-sized towns (Le Havre, Bayeux, Alençon, Coutances, Falaise and Saint-Lô). It is therefore in the seventeenth and eighteenth century that we must find the origin of so-called traditional forms such as crosses of St. Lo, crosses of Rouen, cross moguls and Holy Spirits. These rich jewels, reserved for the rich elite of the cities, nobility but above all merchant bourgeoisie, will become popular during the nineteenth century.
