* The Huguenot cross is a Protestant symbol, originally from the south of France. It is similar to the cross of Saint John and the order of the Holy Spirit. The Huguenot cross was created around 1688, after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, by a Nimes silversmith, Maystre. Louis XIV had forbidden the Protestants all insignia; the latter, as a sign of rebellion, used the fleur-de-lis Maltese cross for their cross. As for the dove, it represents the Holy Spirit, an expression of the Christian's relationship with God.
