* The Norman Cross

traditional jewelery of the region. Indeed, the jewel in Normandy has a type and a style of its own. Its wide variety of shapes and the quality of its manufacturing indicates a significant corporation of goldsmiths jewelers under the old regime, and powerful jewelers in the nineteenth and twentieth s. in the regional capital (Rouen) and medium-sized cities (Le Havre, Bayeux, Alencon, Coutances, Cliff and Saint-Lô). This is the seventeenth and eighteenth century that we must find the origin of the so-called traditional forms like the cross of Saint-Lô, Rouen crosses, crosses bumps and Holy Spirits. These rich ornaments, reserved for the wealthy elite of the cities, but also noble merchant bourgeoisie, was popularized throughout the nineteenth century.
