Book called "The Meal through the ages" by A.Guillaume *, including numerous engravings on different ways to eat at various times, Paris, 15 rue Soufflot Ch.Delagrave Library, 1890 vintage late nineteenth century.
This book is in fair condition, binding is very worn. The paper is yellowed and dive in places. The engravings are for their part in good condition and high quality pictures to see. Some prints are annotated (one of them is probably grossly colored by a child).
French painter and caricaturist, one of the most renowned cartoonists of the Belle Epoque. Well to be remembered above all of his posters, Albert William also realized remarkable oil paintings such as Evening in Paris, a portrait of Parisian high society.
Influenced by the eminent poster artist Jules Cheret, he also created many posters for theater as for advertising.
William Albert is also known for his satirical cartoons that were published in humor magazines such as Paris Gil Blas, Le Rire, the Assiette au beurre and Le Figaro illustrated.
Winner of the bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900, he saw many of his illustrations published in albums by publishers such as Jules Tallandier, Ernest and Henri Maindron Simonis.
He also made three albums of drawings military, including My Campaigns (1896), foreword by George Courteline.
William Albert had retired at the end of his life in the small village of False in the Dordogne, where he died in 1942.
