* Michel Le Vassor is a French historian and theologian, born in Orleans around 1648 and died in the county of Northampton in 1718. Member of the Oratory congregation, he published, in 1688, a Treatise on True Religion which attracted him remonstrances from his superiors. Wounded by these reproaches, he left the order and retired to Holland in 1695, then moved to England, where he adopted the principles of the Anglican Church. At the request of Doctor Burnet, he obtained a pension from King William, and Lord Portland showered him with the warmest marks of friendship. Unfortunately his protectors abandoned him after the publication of his history of Louis XIII, and it is believed that Levassor ended his days in an unhappy situation, if not in absolute poverty.
