Small box or box bressans enamels * decorated with lily of the valley surrounded by friezes of enamel beads, finely chiseled gilded bronze mount, resting on four feet foliage scrolls, signed Tahan ** Bd des Italiens, Napoleon period III 19th century.

This box is in good condition and is of very high quality. It is signed see photos. The interior is padded.

A note: slight wear and scratches, the cardboard bottom is a little curled, look at the pictures.

* Enamels Bressans:

Exclusively made in Bourg-en-Bresse, enamels Bressans are a decorative art very popular in the nineteenth century. The Bressan tradition traces the origin of this technique to the 16th century from 1397 when an enameller of the city, Master Guillaume, would have been entrusted with the sword of Amédée VIII of Savoy to decorate the pommel and sheath. In the 19th century, Bressan goldsmiths initiated a new genre, incorporating enamelled plates, gold glitter, enamel beads and filigree arabesques.

** TAHAN Jean-Pierre (1813-1892)

Probably the most famous cabinetmaker of the Emperor Napoleon III. It was under his impetus that the house of his father, Pierre-Lambert, took off and became one of the most famous of Paris. He exercised 10, rue basse du rempart until 1847, then 161 rue St Martin, 34 rue de la Paix from 1849, and finally 11 boulevard des Italiens, from 1866 to 1878. This last address is the most prestigious, for he had at that moment the confidence of Napoleon III. His specialties were the boxes, boxes, small furniture style happiness of the day, offices. He had important workshops and more than 200 workers around 1870. He participated in all exhibitions and competitions between 1849 and 1867. He won a silver medal in 1849, one in London in 1852, and the gold medal in 1867, as well as an honorary medal in 1865 awarded by the Central Union of Fine Arts. He became one of the personalities of his corporation, and exercised until 1882.
