Exclusively made in Bourg-en-Bresse, enamels Bressans are a decorative art very popular in the nineteenth century. The Bressan tradition traces the origin of this technique to the 16th century from 1397 when an enameller of the city, Master Guillaume, would have been entrusted with the sword of Amédée VIII of Savoy to decorate the pommel and sheath. In the 19th century, Bressan goldsmiths initiated a new genre, incorporating enamelled plates, gold glitter, enamel beads and filigree arabesques.
