* The Spanish Expedition was the campaign led in April 1823 by France to put an end to the constitutional regime established following the Revolution of 1820. This therefore meant the restoration of absolutism and the end of the liberal triennium. In Spain, the campaign is known as "los Cien Mil Hijos de San Luis" in Castilian, literally "the hundred thousand sons of Saint Louis."
