* The Russian craft is deeply inspired by the sacred art of the icon. After the 1917 revolution, many of these artists had to "convert". They then began to create miniature lacquer and lacquer boxes. There are 4 schools in Russia and production of lacquered boxes: Palech, Fedoskino, Holoui and Mstera (names of cities). The boxes to be painted are made of porous cardboard glued with paste and then dried. After being painted, they are then ready to be decorated by the artist. This first paint the subject or subjects and then apply the gilding. Finally, the work will be covered July-August lacquer layers and after prolonged drying, is polished. These small boxes of various shapes are decorated with mythological scenes, Russian tales, scenes of everyday life, landscapes ... etc. (Source: website russie.net)
