Brown-green patina bronze sculpture signed C. Valton * depicting a deer with a slab, from the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
This sculpture is in good condition. Signed on the base.
A note: slight wear of time, see photos.
Animal sculptor, pupil of Barye and Frémiet, familiar with the Jardin des Plantes from the age of fifteen, regularly exhibited at the Salon from 1868 to 1914, first plaster and some wax and, from 1880, almost only small groups in bronze, often associated with other subjects.Despite the multiplicity of the subjects exposed to the Salon, it does not seem that these works were the subject of abundant editions. (extract The Bronzes of the XIXth century by P. Kjellberg)
Artist very well side on Artprice.
