Henriette-Marie-Sarah Bernhardt, known as Sarah Bernhardt, born in Paris (1844-1923), is one of the most important French actresses of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. Called by Victor Hugo "the Golden Voice", but also by others "the Divine" or the "Empress of the theater", she is considered by many as one of the greatest French tragedies of the nineteenth century. First international star, she is the first actress to have made triumphant tours on five continents, Jean Cocteau inventing for her the expression of "sacred monster".
