Large bronze sculpture signed A. Carrier-Belleuse, entitled "La Cigale", depicting a woman playing the mandolin, XIXth century.

This sculpture is in good condition and is of exceptional quality, it is very decorative because of its large size (92 cm high). Signed on the side plaque on the front.

A note: slight wear of the patina, some scratches (especially on the left elbow of the woman), see photos.

* Albert-Ernest Carrier de Belleuse says Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887):

is a French sculptor. He was one of the most prolific artists of the century and enjoyed the greatest success under the Second Empire, benefiting from the personal support of Napoleon III. His work was greatly influenced by the style of the Italian Renaissance and that of the eighteenth century, which he helped to bring up to date. Carrier-Belleuse has strongly contributed to the improvement of the decorative and industrial arts. From his studio at 15 rue de la Tour d'Auvergne in Paris, in which a large number of artists worked, including Auguste Rodin, a prodigious quantity of decorative statuettes was released. Carrier-Belleuse was, towards the end of his life, director of the works of art of the Manufacture de Sèvres. His signature A.Carrier is repeated in the Dictionary of Sculptors by P. Kjellberg.
