Superb pair of bookends bronze brown patina, signed by animal sculptor Ch.Virion *, one depicting a pelican with a turtle and an eagle or other bird of prey in its talons a frog or a lizard, of period late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These bookends are in good condition. They are signed see photos.

A note: small test of time including the patina, see photos.

* Charles Louis Eugène Virion (1865-1946)

animal sculptor, engraver and ceramist medals (Ec en). Student of P.Aubé and Ch.Gauthier. Exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1886, honorable mention in 1893; member in 1893 of the third class medal in 1895, bronze in 1900 at the World Expo, the Animal since 1913. Museums in Calais, Nemours, Rochefort, St. Dizier and Sao Paulo preserve the works of this artist. (See Bénézit)
