Son of the sculptor Jean-Louis Lemoyne (1665-1755), and nephew of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne (said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne I) (1679-1731). He was a pupil of Robert Le Lorrain, at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. He obtained the Prix de Rome in sculpture in 1725. He is the master of Augustin Pajou for whom it represents the great tradition of French sculpture. It is indeed the official portrait of King Louis XV and his monumental statuary.
