A pupil of his father and Bosio, Duret won the first sculpture prize in 1823. He stayed in Italy from 1824. It was during a trip to Naples that Duret imagined the famous Young Fisherman dancing the Tarentelle which, cast in bronze by Gonon, will be presented at the Salon of 1833. It belongs today At the Louvre; Many cuts have been made. Other less known works include a Neapolitan Dancer, presented at the Salon of 1838 as during the young Fisherman. His notoriety has earned him numerous official commissions for monuments such as the Louvre, the Palais de Justice, the Bourse ... etc. Full of honors and decorations, Duret entered the Institute in 1843 and was appointed professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1852.
