Pair of Louis XIV candlesticks in finely chiseled gilded bronze, octagonal socket, shaft and base, base with cut sides, hallmarked with the Crowned C*, from the late 17th-18th centuries.
These candlesticks are in good condition. They were hallmarked mid-18th century with a Crowned C on the foot and the socket (under Louis XV).
Please note: they will need to be cleaned, slight impacts and wear and tear, see photos.
Designed under Louis XV to be a tax mark , the crowned C also became a quality and date mark for collectors: used between 1745 and 1749 , it only seems to have been engraved on the most refined bronzes .
