* Girandoles appeared around 1660, a time when people began to divide the light by multiplying the sources with a large number of candles. This term covers two different objects, one was the upper and removable part of a candelabra including the axis and the arms of light that could be planted in the socket of a torch, the other was a candlestick with several branches. (Cf. Candlesticks and candlesticks by Bernard Mahot).
