* Apollo is the Greek god of song, music and poetry. He is also god of purifications and healing, but can bring the plague with his bow; finally, he is one of the principal gods capable of divination, consulted, among others, at Delphi, where he gave his oracles by Pythia. He was also honored by the Romans, who adopted it very quickly without changing his name. From the fifth century BC AD, they adopted it for its healing powers and raised temples for it. He is also known as Phoebus or Phoebus, "the brilliant". He is often represented with his bow and arrows, or with a lyre: it is called "citharède".
