Religious clock* in painted wood enhanced with gilding, pediment decorated with two small fire pots, gilded brass dial decorated with the bust of Louis XIV, Roman numerals in enameled cartouches, below two female figures holding a floral garland, representing Allegories (Science on the right with the globe and the compass; Abundance on the left), from the late 17th century.
This pendulum is in good general condition and is of high quality. It works but will need to be serviced. The striking rod and hinge were changed later. We have its key.
With its wooden lamp base console.

*From the middle of the 17th century, the pendulum clock appeared in France, replacing the foliot mechanisms of clocks. The religious clock was one of the flagship models of the reign of the Sun King. The Louis XIV religious clock : the case of the religious clock , often rectangular, is topped with a pediment or an ogee and fire pots. It is framed by pilasters or columns. Its case can be in Boulle marquetry or in veneer wood and enhanced with gilded and chiseled bronzes. The dial, in brass or gilded bronze, occupies an important place on the façade.
