Pair of finely carved coconuts cut into cups, with inscription "Souvenir of Guiana", decorated with a landscape with traditional dwellings and palm trees and boats, work of sailor or convict (perhaps prison of Cayenne), vintage late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
These coconuts are in good general condition.
A note: a lid was broken and then glued, break on a foot (missing a piece of foliage), missing the buttons of the lids, the threads were probably changed later (trace of glue on one), some wear time, see photos.

* The coconut as the corozo was worked by the sailors or also by convicts. The latter worked to pass the time but also and especially to make a little money to improve their lives. Can also be attributed to sailors on their long journeys. These objects in coconut or corozo are fine examples of folk art.
