Carved coconut, Emperor Napoleon, 19th century

Rare coconut carved, decorated with scenes of the Emperor Napoleon on the island of St. Helena during his exile, as well as attributes of the war (flags, swords and shields), working as a sailor or convict * of XIXth century.

This coconut is in fair condition.

A note: it is weakened by hairlines (see photos) and breakage, also lacks eyes and mouth of the character, see photos.

* The coconut as the tagua was worked by sailors or also by convicts. The latter worked to pass the time but mainly to get some money to improve their lives. Can also be attributed to sailors during their long journeys. These objects are coconut or corozo fine examples of folk art.
