Carved coconut, in the shape of a grotesque character's head, decorated with a cup garnished with flowers, foliage and palm trees, work of a sailor or convict, from the 19th century.
This coconut is in good condition, good quality.
A note: some scratches and wear of time, see photos.
* Coconut, like corozo, was worked by sailors or convicts. The latter worked it to pass the time but also and above all to make a little money in order to improve their daily lives. Can also be attributed to sailors on their long voyages. These coconut or corozo objects are fine examples of folk art.
