Pair of half gourds or coconut carved initials RF decor surrounded by flags and a floral frieze on one; and a flower vase and floral motifs on the other convict work certainly of French Guiana (perhaps Cayenne penal colony), vintage late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These coconuts are in good condition.

A note: repaired two slots (glue) on a walnut, small slot at the hole in the clip on the other, some wear and scratches time, see pictures.

* Coconut like the ivory nut was worked by marine or also by convicts. The latter worked to pass the time but mainly to get some money to improve their lives. Can also be attributed to sailors during their long journeys. These objects are coconut or corozo finest examples of folk art.
