Rare book about Salvador Dali by James Thrall Soby *, published by The Museum of Modern Art, distributed by Simon and Schuster, New York, 1946, dedicated to Dalí Hand "Good Day For Ragnar Salvador Dalí", accompanied by a drawing on page 42. Comes from the estate of Van Leyden ** family.
This book is in good condition. It is complete. It is dedicated to the hand of the cover page of Dali's son Ragnar Van Leyden.
It comes with a little drawing or sketch (see photo, 9,5 cm x 6 cm), short 42-43 page, unsigned, perhaps Dali, who was selected by the Accreditation Commission and cataloging of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation and then move into a Commission expert (the approach may be continued if desired by the buyer), the drawing is not appraised.
A note: the binding is worn and damaged in places, few stains on the cover, minute traces of jaunissures on paper, see photos.

Marquis of Púbol Dalí (1904-1989) was a painter, sculptor, engraver, writer and Catalan writer of Spanish nationality. It is considered one of the leading representatives of surrealism and as one of the most famous painters of the twentieth siècle.Sur the advice of Joan Miró, he joined Paris at the end of his studies and integrated the Surrealist group, where he met his wife Gala. He found his own style from 1929, when he became surreal full and invented the paranoiac-critical method. Excluded from this group a few years after he lived the Spanish Civil War in exile in Europe before leaving France to war to New York where he made a fortune and lived eight years. On his return to Catalonia in 1949, he operated a turn towards Catholicism, approached the Renaissance painting and was inspired by scientific developments of his time to change his style to what he called "mysticism corpuscular". The topics that were most frequently approached dreams, sexuality, edible, his wife Gala and religion.

Painter of Dutch origin. Until 1914 he studied at the Academies of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, Brussels, Berlin and London. First close expressionism, he produced his first abstract work in 1948. From its three workshops in Los Angeles, Venice and Paris, he led a life of constant traveling and making new friends with celebrities of his time: Chaplin, Stravinsky, Brecht, Dali, Picasso ... His travels to Vallauris have inspired such later work as a ceramist. His work is recognized and purchased by leading world museums. In the 50s, he made collages of large format in the same spirit as Jasper Johns and Rauschenberg, and applies to "reveal the secret life" of his materials.
Born in Germany, Karin studied at the "Kölner Werkschule" in Cologne where she was a professor R. Seewald and J. Thorn Prikker. Married to Ernst van Leyden with whom she lived and worked in France, Portugal, Great Britain, Italy, New York, Hollywood and Mexico. The couple will also travel a lot in Egypt, Syria and Lebanon. They also spent much time at Ernst Parisian studio in their home on Lake Loosdrecht Holland. Ernst Karin met many of his contemporaries, such as Marc Chagall, Jules Pascin, Ossip Zadkine and Francis Picabia. She has exhibited at the Georges Bernheim Gallery in 1929. In 1932, after the birth of their son Ragnar, the young family moved to Rio do Milho Portugal. In 1947, Karin and Ernst seeking new inspirations and leave for an extended stay in Mexico, to delve into the ancient Mayan culture. In 1957, after their final return to Europe, and back and forth between Paris and Venice, Ernst buys an abandoned farmhouse outside Paris: Lieutel de L'Enclos. The location is too isolated for Karin, who can not be painting landscapes. She prefers Italy, its life and exuberance. After 30 years of creative intimacy, the two artists will take different paths. From 1953, she worked on oil paintings and collages on. Karin van Leyden eventually died in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1977.
