the only son of Charles Gallé (1818-1902) and Fanny Reinemer (1828-1891) who held Nancy a crystal and porcelain trade. After a period of apprenticeship in different cities of Europe, Weimar and Meisenthal among others, Emile Gallé is associated with the business of trade and decoration of earthenware and glassware of his father since 1867. It is he who represents his father at the 1867 World Fair in Paris where he received an honorable mention for glassware and at the World and International Exhibition of 1872 in Lyon where he won a gold medal in class 33 (porcelain and crystals). In 1877, Emile Gallé took over the family business and expanded his business to cabinetmaking in 1885. Already noticed at the Exposition of the Earth and Glass in 1884, Emile Gallé is dedicated to the World Fair in Paris in 1889 by three awards. The Art Nouveau furniture is really promoted by Émile Gallé. Theorist and animator of the school of Nancy, he began his cabinetmaking activity in 1885. Although his most beautiful pieces of furniture are unique pieces, he does not hesitate, in keeping with his desire to democratize art, to organize in his workshops an industrial series production.
