Table Design, Mathieu Matégot, twentieth century

Rare table Matégot * perforated metal to 1940-1950 period.

This table is in good condition and is of great workmanship. It is not signed but is the work of designer Matégot (see last photo from the book on Matégot by Jousse Enterprise Editions, 2003).

A note: some rust, missing a golden pearl (see red arrow), normal wear, see photos.

* Matégot Mathieu (1910-2001): Born in Hungary April 4, 1910, Mathieu Matégot spent four years at the School of Fine Arts in Budapest before becoming a stage designer. In 1931, he moved to Paris, working as a window dresser and realizes in 1933 his first rattan objects on metal carcass, but artisanal and anonymously. Meanwhile, the painter that he has ceased to be conceived, in 1939, his first tapestries. Prisoner of war, he had the idea during his assignment in gear factory, carrosser a box with perforated sheet falls. From 1945 to his return from captivity and when he opened a workshop of furniture in Paris, he decided to use this material in the form of a perforated sheet is easy to machine, patented under the name Rigitulle. For fifteen years he produced in very small series of furniture, chairs, lamps and other objects with light forms, often unexpected, which predominates the black lacquered metal or bright colors. It also uses rattan, brass, formica, glass or wood. Member of the Society of Artists decorators (SAD), he exhibited regularly between 1952 and 1958 Home Exhibition and the Salon des Artistes Decorators twenties models that created every year and it sells exclusively to decorating houses. It also receives commands interiors (offices, apartments, hotels, shops, restaurants). As part of these commands, including designs bars and restaurants of the first Star Drug Store on the Champs Elysee in Paris, La Saladière Avenue des Ternes in Paris and two homes at the Maison de la Radio in Paris. Applications multiplying, it installs a factory in Casablanca and an agency in London. His health problems forced him to quit gradually all artistic and public activity. He died at Angers February 17, 2001 at the age of 90 years.
