Property of the Polignac family since 1851. The Marquis de Polignac was general councilor and mayor of Guidel, from 1894 to 1901. He created the stud farm, the wash house and the three hamlet schools in the commune. The estate passed to the fourth child of Marquis Jean. He was also mayor of Guidel, from 1935 to 1943. He married Marie-Blanche di Piétro, the daughter of Jeanne Lanvin, a famous Parisian fashion designer. Kerbastic is under the influence of Jean and Marie-Blanche de Polignac, a summer meeting place for artists of the time: Francie Poulenc, Nadia Boulnger, Georges Auric, Germaine Taillefer stayed there. The silviculturist Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, friend of Claude Monet and the Impressionists, designed part of the Kerbastic gardens before designing the Bagatelle rose garden and the Champ-de-Mars gardens in Paris. Marie-Blanche and Jean de Polignac died childless and bequeathed Kerbastic to their nephew, Prince Louis de Polignac.
