Rare covered bowl with ears, in solid silver Farmers General: Rennes community hallmark (1756-1762), discharge hallmarks and PJB goldsmith hallmark for Pierre-Julien Buchet*; an artichoke on a leafy terrace at the top of the lid, shell-shaped ears decorated with a satyr mask, lid with chiseled ogee with a medallion, vintage 18th century.
This bowl is in good condition and is of exceptional quality. Numerous discharge punches in several places on the bowl and lid (see photos).
* PJB goldsmith's mark with crowned ermine for Pierre-Julien Buchet, received master's degree in 1759, from a large Rennes family of goldsmiths.
Few Breton covered bowls have reached us, this one is all the more exceptional due to its quality of carving.
Please note: the coat of arms or the monogram originally chiseled in the medallion was later erased, this bowl was repolished, micro-scratches and slight wear from time, look carefully at the photos.
