Santons Neapolitans
The Neapolitan crèches are very different from those that can be seen in the churches by the importance of secular scenes, they are not limited to stage the nativity baby Jesus surrounded by the holy family but are large compositions with abundant scenery and multiple characters which often work the best artists.
Its spectacular nature and scenic wealth, are only possible thanks to the work of several artists and craftsmen (architects, sculptors, painters, jewelers, potters, tailors, etc..). Indeed, thanks to their imagination, they were able to reproduce the daily life of Neapolitans seventeenth and eighteenth century. The elegance of figuration and workmanship of these figurines also reveals the quality of expertise Neapolitan artisans.
Market, hospitality, dances, street vendors, beggars, tavern, various crafts, herding, the royal procession, and all that was within the reach of everyday life or fantasy had its place in the Neapolitan crèches reflects the richness and variety of this and artisanal production.
