Pair of brutalist style wall lights in colored glass and shards of polished glass, "Chartres" model inspired by the famous stained glass windows in Chartres Cathedral, by designer Willem Van Oyen for Raak * Editor (Netherlands), from period 1960-1970.
These wall lights are in good condition, in their own juice. They will have to be re-electrified (we can take care of it on request and estimate). Lack of some fixing screws.

Founded in 1954 by Carel O. Lockhorn, Raak is one of the most esteemed Dutch lighting manufacturers of the 20th century. Before launching his business in Amsterdam, Carel O. Lockhorn worked for the giant Philips in Eindhoven (where he subsequently opened a second Raak store). Raak's slogan is “Illuminated Architecture” (Lichtarchitectuur in Dutch), which highlights the brand's commitment to producing sophisticated designs that blend seamlessly into interiors. Glass and metal floor lamps, pendant lights and wall sconces have both elegant and futuristic shapes and are made of high quality materials.
In the 1960s, Raak collaborated with the famous artist and glass maker Willem van Oyen. While the association between art and industry is common in the Netherlands, a country where the boundaries between the creative professions are blurred, the result of the collaboration between Willem van Oyen and Raak is out of the ordinary. Raak describes the handcrafted Chartres Wall Lights (1964) by Willem van Oyen as smeltschilderijen, ie “melted paint”. This series is inspired by the stained glass windows of Chartres Cathedral.
Raak regularly collaborates with international designers and architects, such as Evert Jelle Jelles, Sergio Asti, Bertrand Balas and Nanny Still. Two of Raak's most famous lamps are the metal cylindrical Fuga Lamp by Maija-Liisa Komulainen (circa 1970) and the very simple Globe 2000 Floor Lamp by Frank Ligtelijn (1961). Faced with its success, the Globe 2000 is manufactured as a pendant lamp and wall lamp. Its minimalist aesthetic is a prime example of Raak's style and makes the Globe 2000 a vintage classic.
In 1974, Carel O. Lockhorn sold the company, but remained director until 1977. In 1999, the company joined the Center for Light Architecture in Drachten. Raak is one of the iconic post-war lighting manufacturing companies, but also a key contributor to the 'Space Age' style of the 1960s and 1970s. Raak lamps are highly sought after among collectors and vintage enthusiasts. of the whole world.
