Lampe Berger * earthenware form Longwy ball rock flower decoration, model LY Sevigne (1962-1969), vintage twentieth century.

This lamp is in good condition. It lacks the metal part covering the wick.
It is signed below. Model referenced in the book of Gerald Vilcocq.

* Berger lamp

was developed by Maurice Berger (1866-1930), a pharmacy dispenser, who filed a patent on June 16, 1898. Its commercialization begins around 1902 in some Parisian pharmacies before Maurice Berger opened his shop in 1910 18 rue Duphot in Paris. Berger lamp consists of a bottle in which a mixture of water and isopropanol, scented or not, is paid. A wick dipped in the alcohol which rises by capillarity to a catalyst consisting of platinum black and ceramic which, brought to about 500 ° C, will produce aldehydes. These aldehydes released into the atmosphere purify the air by neutralizing odors and perfuming the environment. Appreciated Colette, Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso, the Berger lamp, originally utilitarian object and purpose of interior decoration has become collectible.
