Is a French watchmaker (1750-1812). He is the inventor of the lycnomena or mechanical lamps (oil lamps, cylinder lamps and piston lamps) which bear his name. In 1800 Guillaume Carcel developed his oil lamp (rapeseed, for example) with a suction-displacement pump driven by a clock motor, which ensures constant feeding of the wick. The tank is no longer lateral: it is now under the burner. This lamp, on stand, has a cylindrical wick burner and a movable glass holder to regulate the flame. The chimney glass is choked at the level of the flame. The Carcel lamp, considered expensive and fragile, was reserved for a wealthy clientele.
