Very nice miniature hand painted a portrait of Napoleon's son, the King of Rome * Napoleon II said the Eaglet, vintage late nineteenth century.

This miniature is in good condition and frame. It is signed lower right but illegible.

Imperial Prince, titled King of Rome at his birth, then Prince of Parma, proclaimed Napoleon II at the end of the Hundred Days and finally titled Duke of Reichstadt by his grandfather, the Emperor of Austria, was born March 20, 1811 the Tuileries Palace in Paris, and died July 22, 1832 at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. He was the son and heir of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French, and his second wife, Marie Louise of Austria. He in turn was acknowledged emperor, ruling under the name of Napoleon II, 4 to 6 April 1814 and 22 June to 7 July 1815 (his father having abdicated in 1814, then in 1815), as recognized by the Assemblies. His nickname of Aiglon has been awarded posthumously and was popularized by the play by Edmond Rostand, the title role being created March 15, 1900 by actress Sarah Bernhardt.
