* From the time of the Mass in Latin back to the people, three paintings written in Latin and sometimes decorated by hand, were arranged on the altar, the one on the left included the text of the prologue of the Gospel according to Saint John, that the priest said at the end of the mass. In the center a table on three columns included the Gloria, the Creed and the prayers of the consecration. On the right the third contained the blessing prayers of the water and the Washbasin. Often, these guns are extremely decorated, and sometimes even by hand. The use of the central canon sometimes survives for the "Mass of Paul VI" (or "ordinary form of the Roman rite") celebrated in Latin.
