Set of altar guns * of the Gospel of St. John, in bronze and gilded brass finely chiselled with stylized friezes on the periphery as well as a vegetable motif, a central panel surmounted by a cross, from the 19th century.

These altar cannons are in good condition. They are glass.

Note: some stains and yellows on the papers, slight deformations on the decorations in the top, tiny little shine inside a window (left panel, red arrow), wear time, well look at the photos.

We put other altar guns on sale on this site.

From the time of the Mass in Latin to the people, three pictures, written in Latin and sometimes decorated by hand, were placed on the altar, one on the left included the text of the prologue of the Gospel according to Saint John. The priest said at the end of the Mass. In the center a table on three columns contained the Gloria, the Credo and the prayers of the consecration. On the right the third contained the prayers of blessing of the water and of the Lavabo. Often, these cannons are extremely decorated, and sometimes even by hand. The use of the central canon sometimes remains for the "Mass of Paul VI" (or "ordinary form of the Roman rite") celebrated in Latin.
