Jules Desbois was born and raised in Parçay-les-Pins, Maine et Loire, where he studied with the sculptor Bouriché, then at the School of Fine Arts in Angers. He obtained a scholarship for the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He works in Cavellier's studio, a former student of David d'Angers. He acquired a taste for antiquity and mastery of modeling. He takes part in building sites where he meets Auguste Rodin. He then joined the master's studio, which, very much sought after, surrounded himself with talented sculptors like Desbois and Camille Claudel. From this collaboration come a friendship and a mutual influence. Jules Desbois develops his work around the search for movement, the attachment to the female model, realism. Perfectionist, he is known for the subtlety of his modeling and his taste for materials. Recognized and famous artist during his lifetime, many works were bought by the State.
