Large sculpture in terracotta signed Carrier-Belleuse * representing a group of four putti dancing at Bacchanale, at their feet bunches of scattered grapes, XIXth century.
This sculpture is in good condition. Signed on the back. It is entirely terracotta, the base is golden patina to imitate a wooden base.
A note: an arm was glued (the one with the cut), some dirt and fouling in the reliefs (faces, bunches, leaves ...), small chips on the edge at the back, wear of time, well look at the photos (see red arrows)
is a French sculptor. He was one of the most prolific artists of the century and enjoyed the greatest success under the Second Empire, benefiting from the personal support of Napoleon III. His work was greatly influenced by the style of the Italian Renaissance and that of the eighteenth century, which he helped to bring up to date. Carrier-Belleuse has strongly contributed to the improvement of the decorative and industrial arts. From his studio at 15 rue de la Tour d'Auvergne in Paris, in which a large number of artists worked, including Auguste Rodin, a prodigious quantity of decorative statuettes was released. Carrier-Belleuse was, towards the end of his life, director of the works of art of the Manufacture de Sèvres. His signature A.Carrier is repeated in the Dictionary of Sculptors by P. Kjellberg.
