In 1885 Friedrich Goldscheider founded the Goldscheider Manufacture which became one of the most influential ceramic manufactures for terracotta, earthenware and bronze objects in Austria, with subsidiaries in Paris, Leipzig and Florence. For more than half a century, Goldscheider has created masterpieces in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco style. Renowned artists such as Josef Lorenzl, Stefan Dakon, Ida Meisinger, Michael Powolny and Vally Wieselthier have worked for Goldscheider. The Goldscheider family emigrated in 1938 to the United Kingdom and the United States. Walter Goldscheider founded a new factory in Trenton, (New Jersey) then returned to Vienna in 1950. Marcel Goldscheider opened his own studio in the 1950s in Hanley. Both brothers died in the early 1960s. More than 10,000 different models were created over a period of three generations. Since the beginning, many of these models have won gold medals at world exhibitions. The sculptures of the GOLDSCHEIDER factory are today highly sought after by collectors around the world and fetch amazing prices at auction in auction rooms such as Sotheby, Christie or Drouot.
