Born to Italian parents, he worked in France and exhibited at the Salon from 1886. Very influenced by the Art Nouveau spirit, he produced countless subjects, mostly female figures. Most were cast in bronze and also in variously tinted metal, often in several dimensions, or even several versions. On the other hand, he only exhibited one bronze at the Salon before 1914, Bronze "Judith" (1898), and plasters. Many bronze proofs signed by Villanis are on sale and at public auctions. Many statuettes evoke music. The stamp of the Société des bronzes de Paris frequently appears on them. (extract Les bronzes du XIXème siècle, by P.Kjellberg).
Artist highly rated on ArtPrice.
