Japanese print on Ukiyo-e* type paper, signed by the artist Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) family name: Utagawa, representing a character (probably an actor) playing a samurai holding his straw hat between his toes, Edo period 19th century.

This print is in good overall condition. It is signed see photos. It is not framed, perhaps incomplete.

Please note: some stains and yellowing on the paper, it has been glued back onto a sheet of paper, take a good look at the photos.

* Ukiyo-e

Japanese term meaning "picture of the floating world") is a Japanese art movement of the Edo period (1603-1868) including not only original folk and narrative painting, but also and especially Japanese woodblock prints. The main themes are Bijinga ("Paintings of beautiful women"), Kabuki and yakusha-e (images of the kabuki theater and its actors), Shunga (erotic paintings), Landscapes (fkei-ga) and "famous views" (meisho-e) and also fauna and flora.
