This painting is in good condition. It has its golden frame (it will be reattached). Signed and dated lower right, dedication "To my good friend Courtois Souvenir".

is a French painter, lithographer, engraver and caricaturist. Eugene Forest is the student of the painter Camille Roqueplan. He exhibited in regional salons, and from 1847 to 1866 at the Salon de Paris where he presented particular paintings of landscapes and bird studies. As a lithographer and caricaturist, he was influenced by Henri Monnier and Grandville, whose technique of drawing on stone he inherited. He collaborates with Grandville and Honoré Daumier in the illustrated satirical newspapers La Silhouette (1829-1830), La Caricature (1830-1835) and Le Charivari (from 1832) and illustrates many vignettes including: The Old Hunter Theophile Deyeux (1835), Illustrated alphabet edited by Aubert (1838), Historiettes et images d'A. de Savigny (1840), Physiology of the heart lover of M.Constantin (1842).
