A note: some small accidents on the frame, small hole and depression on the canvas between the legs of the dog (see red arrow), wear time, see photos.
Animal painter. Companion of Rosa Bonheur met since childhood in 1837, she worked jointly with this great animal painter on several compositions. In 1860, abandoning Parisian life, they settled in By (Thomery), near Fontainebleau, in a large property / castle, surrounded by all kinds of animals. This is where Empress Eugenie visits them in 1864.
