Small oil on panel representing two children lying or sitting in a bucolic landscape, the little girl playing with a white bird, the other child holding a young animal in his arms, signed Lanfant de Metz *, in a gilded frame, from the 19th century century.
This table is in good condition as well as its frame. Signed lower right.
A note: some wear of time on the frame, see photos.
Student of Ary Scheffer in Paris, he exhibited at the Salon from 1843 to 1866, scenes of streets or nursery schools populated by mischievous kids and young dogs. He moved to Le Havre in 1868, but often returned to live in Paris in his studio on the Boulevard des Italiens. He himself has transferred a number of his works to lithography. (See Dictionary of the Little Masters of painting by Schurr and Cabanne).
Very good artist on Artprice.
