Pair of orientalist oils on canvas, one representing an archer "the Archer" and the other "La Vedette" (a janissary as sentry), monogrammed AG, which can therefore be attributed to the painter Adrien Guignet * (author of the original paintings), from the mid-19th century.

These paintings are in good general condition. Both monogrammed AG at the bottom right.

Note: traces of restorations on the sentry table, some accidents and wear and tear over time, see photos.

* Jean-Adrien Guignet (1816-1854)

is a French orientalist painter. Adrien Guignet grew up in the town of Autun, where certain landscapes and monuments (notably ancient sites) inspired him. He was a friend of Hippolyte Michaud. A fairly popular orientalist painter in his time, Guignet was recognized for these Egyptian scenes, such as Cambise and Psammenite (kept in Paris at the Louvre Museum), or even Joseph explaining the dreams of the pharaoh (Rouen Museum of Fine Arts), with always a pronounced taste for exotic and mysterious landscapes.
These paintings that we are presenting for sale were very successful (original works painted around 1848-1849), the artist created many others himself.

Well-rated artist on ArtPrice.
