Oil on panel depicting a beautiful young naked woman lying in a small body of water, in the style of Henner's paintings, signed Albert Mayer*, in a gilded stuccoed wooden frame, Art Nouveau period, late 19th century.
This painting is in good condition as is its frame. Signed lower left Albert Mayer perhaps for the German designer famous for his Art Nouveau objects featuring women. One can easily imagine that he could have made paintings on this same theme.
Please note: some dirt and wear from time, see photos.
During the last years of the 19th century and up until 1914, the sculptor Albert Mayer headed the WMF art studio in Geislingen. He not only designed many of the company's products during this period, but was probably also responsible for the design of a majority of the WMF catalogue covers. Albert Mayer's penchant for incorporating slender female figures and Mucha-like female profiles with flowing hair into the design of household objects is clearly visible throughout the 1906 catalogue, as is his uncompromising use of full-fledged Jugendstil ornaments and floral forms.
