Oil on canvas depicting the portrait of a young nobleman wearing a wig and embroidered red frock coat, Jan Yvicquel* Sieur de la Grée and mayor of Croisic in 1730, painted by Sieur Duparfait in 1722 at the age of 31; on the side a coat of arms with three crescent moons framed by two rampant lions and wearing a crown, in a carved wooden frame, from the early 18th century.

This painting is in good condition and is of exceptional quality. Long annotation and details on the back of the canvas (painted in Nantes in 1722). This painting comes from the Breton family of La Guerrande (related to the Yvicquel family by marriage later).

Please note: numerous losses on the frame, traces of restorations on the frame, see photos.

* Jan Yvicquel (1691-1763?): son of Jan Yvicquel (1664-1728), lord of la Grée, mayor of Croisic, churchwarden of Croisic until his death.
Captain of his Coast Guard Company. Was General of the Parish of Batz** by decree in 1728 (succeeded his father) and mayor of the town and community of Croisic by election from 1730. Born in Croisic on May 12, 1691 and died probably in 1763.

** The three current communes of Croisic, Batz and Pouliguen, formed, before 1763, only one parish under the name of Batz and it was administered by two elected Councils which were:
- The town community of Croisic and the parish of Batz. This Council had among its attributions the ports of Croisic and Pouliguen, the repair of the quays, the cleaning of the rooms, the maintenance of the castle and the appointment of the assessor in charge of the income and expenses of the community. It was appointed by the bourgeois and peasants representing the healthiest and best part of the inhabitants of the parish; it had its mayor and its syndic attorney and it was presided over by the captain of the castle. The meetings of the community were attended by the governor of the town for the king, three gentlemen residing in the town, the former mayors and syndic attorneys; the first churchwardens, the former administrators of the Hôtel-Dieu, the captain and the lieutenant of the bourgeois militia. The presence of at least twelve deliberators was necessary to allow the meeting to make decisions.
- The general of the parish of Batz. The name of general of the parish applied to all the notable inhabitants, as well as to the members of the Council gathered in assembly. The meetings generally included about twenty members. The general had the affairs of the parish administered by two churchwardens. (see infobretagne website).
