* Catherine of Alexandria

more known as St. Catherine, is a virgin and martyr who lived in the third and fourth centuries. The tradition is its birth in Alexandria and dated his death at the age of eighteen, in the same city, about the year 307. His legend and worship have spread from East to West and are widely documented after the Crusades. His feast day, November 25, now gives rise to various popular celebrations, including those of young girls to marry more than twenty-five years, called catherinettes. In the tables and frescoes, usually we see St. Catherine standing, recognizable by his attributes: the royal robes and often a crown gear wheel of his punishment, sometimes broken, the ring of her mystical marriage, the palm of martyrs, the book illustration of his erudition, the sword with which she was finally beheaded at his feet, dead bodies of pagan philosophers defeated in his disputes and killed by the emperor.
