Large oil on canvas signed Georges Cheyssial * representing many characters, men and women sitting and talking on the terrace of a cafe or restaurant in Rome (Italy), with a violinist in background, from the 1930's 20th century.
This painting is in good condition and is of high quality. It is signed and marked "Rome" bottom right. This painting was performed during the artist's stay in Rome between 1932 and 1937 when he studied at the Villa Medici after his Prix de Rome.

Character painter, genre scenes and wall decorations. Cheyssial was a student of one of the Laurens brothers (probably Paul Albert) at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He won the Prix de Rome in 1932 and studied at the Villa Médicis from 1932 to 1937. Cheyssial exhibited in Paris, including the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon d'Automne, winning numerous awards, prizes and medals. He was appointed Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters and of the Legion of Honor. In addition, Cheyssial has received numerous commissions for decorative work in colleges and universities and other public buildings, including the Palais de la Découverte in Paris (1937), the church of Notre Dame du Calvaire in Chantillon-sous-Bagneux, The parish church of Orly (1947). ), The theater and the college of Niort (1960) and the buildings of the faculty of Orsay (1967). Cheyssial was President and Honorary President of the Taylor Foundation and became a member of the Institut de France in 1958. He was appointed curator of the J.-J. Henner Museum in 1973.
