* Today's Kutani porcelain is based on the early 19th century revival of the original Kutani porcelain, which was made from the mid-17th century for several decades in the village of Kutani in southern Ishikawa Prefecture. Later, this porcelain rose to fame when it was presented at the 1873 World's Fair and was exported to the West for a time.
