Trio of Quimper earthenware characters (Henriot) signed JES for Jim-Eugène Sévellec (1897-1971), representing guests at the Breton wedding (a man flanking two women), vintage 20th century.

is a French painter and earthenware maker (1897-1971). He is the father of the artist Ronan-Jim Sevellec. Eugène Sévellec grew up in Camaret-sur-Mer with the artistic colony of the entourage of the writer Saint-Pol-Roux. At a very young age, he drew life in the port. Under the influence of Saint-Pol-Roux, he left for Paris to follow artistic training with Louis-Marie Désiré-Lucas. During the First World War, he was mobilized in 1916 in the infantry and he served, among other things, as an interpreter for American and Scottish soldiers. This is how his companions gave him his artistic first name “Jim”, easier to pronounce than that of Eugène. Jim Sévellec has been collaborating since 1928 with the Henriot factory, an earthenware factory in Quimper. In 1936 he was appointed painter to the Navy. For the Tanguy Tower museum, he recreates the past of the city of Brest through dioramas.
